It was my first foreign travel to Malaysia in order to see my ailing sister that inspired me to write a book. My visit was in December 1999 and the period was tempered with anxiety, expectations, and wild rumor about the transition from 1999 to 2000, otherwise known as the 2YK problem. This prompted me to collect and compile important events and information between 1900 and 1999 that paved way to “Glimpses of 20th Century”.
Almost all important events of significance are arranged here in a systematic way international, national and local — year-wise. So actually it is a reference book.
The title of my second work is ‘Vamsavriksham’. It unfolds the history of a family which is located in the village of Adichanalloor, some 10 kms east of Kollam. A family with a great reputation, it is one of the leading families in Travancore. Spread over a large part of Kollam district, Palavila- that is the name of the family, is my maternal family. | have successfully traced ten generations of this family and bout 250 years of its history. The family is now a great banyan tree.
My third work also belongs to the family history category but with a difference. The title of the book is ‘Ezhavarude Abhijatha Vamsa Parambaryam Mayyanadintedinte Kalppadukal’. The book starts with an introduction, an objective history of the place. Even though the book deals with families, the basis of consideration is ‘Illam’.
Here the theme is not a single-family but groups of families. To put it otherwise the families mentioned here are the Ezhava families of Mayyanad and its neighboring places like Kottiyam, Thattamala, and so on. They actually formed part of Mayyanad in earlier days. Since this book deals with the Ezhava families of Mayyanad, the work may be treated as the history of that place. Mayyanad is a unique place. A dynamic and progressive society, culturally very advanced, the village forms a class by itself. During the days of untouchability and chathurvarnya, Mayyanad kept a distance from these cancerous practices. For the people of Mayyanad, these social practices were not familiar.
In the list of books there is one more, but is under printing. The theme of the book is about the Roots of Keralites and the title of book is “Keraleeyarude Adiverukal -Buddha Mathathinte Adarukaliloode”. It will be launched soon!
